Bores and ‘bio-bugs’ at the Ayrshire Downs Field Day

A big thank you to our hosts, the Ogg family on Ayrshire Downs, who allowed us to hold a workshop on their property this week.
 
The “field day” brought together landholders, Government Officers from the Department of Water and staff from DCQ to provide updates on recent bore capping projects in their area.
 

Bores, biocontrols and grasscover monitoring were ‘hot topics’ at the Ayrshire Downs Field Day in March 2023.

 
Indeed, the Watertight 2027 project is well underway!
 
Landholders are working hard to cap and pipe all flowing bores throughout the Desert Channels region by 2027.
 
Additionally, properties in the Winton area will be hosting trial releases of a new bug biocontrol, which we hope will reduce the impacts of a Weed of National Significance, Prickly Acacia.
 
Other properties will also be hosting trials on some new chemical control techniques.
 
Throughout all of this work, DCQ can also make ground cover monitoring data available to landholders who might want to test new management options and measure the impact of those changes.
Five more of these meetings will be held throughout the Desert Channels region in the coming months. Landholders to dive deep with questions about work underway, something not always possible at large field days.

Note: The workshop planned for Boulia at the end of March has been postponed due to the flooding but will be back on very soon.
